I love braids. More to the point, I love braids that look fancy, but are actually pretty simple to do. Enter the twist braid.  It looks like it took you forever, but really, it only takes about 30 seconds.

Start by pulling your hair to the side and parting it in two.

Twist the two pieces away from each other.  Technically, you can also twist them towards each other if you prefer, but I like starting the twist outwards because it gives the top of your hair more volume.

Pretty much all you do it keep twisting.  The trick is after every couple of twists, you re-divide your hair so that you don't have the same strands in the same bunch all the time.  Thats what makes it piece-y and braid-like, rather than just two pieces of twisted hair.  You can see in this photo how after the initial couple twists, I re-divided my hair (I have the most luck when I go in from the sides), and continued twisting in the opposite direction.

Continue with the twists until you get to the end of your hair and tie it up with an elastic.  I think it kind of looks like a messy (and much easier) fishtail braid when you're done.

And that's it! I tend to use braids in hairstyles a whole lot, so knowing a few different types keeps it from getting boring.

  1. I have to say, this is my new favorite way to do my hair on day 4 and 5 of no washing. It makes it look like I put a lot of work into it.
